Air Wings / Player photos not appearing
« on: August 14, 2015, 10:01:29 AM »
Has anyone else noticed that the player photos no longer appear?  I think this has been going on for a while, but I only just now made a conscious observation of it.

Air Wings / So much for Kamcord
« on: July 25, 2015, 06:51:18 AM »
I just got this from Kamcord.  Bummer.

----------------------------

Hey there,

Wanted to reach out to give you an important Kamcord update. This is an exciting time for us, as we  recently made a key decision regarding our company direction. Yesterday we officially launched live streaming, which has significantly shifted engineering resources within Kamcord.

In addition to live streaming, we’re focusing our engineering resources on standalone recording apps that allow users to record and share any game on their phone!

This technology is already bringing top content creators onto Kamcord and accelerating the growth of our community. In the future, this will prove very beneficial to you as a game developer because we will be able to drive a higher volume of installs to games.

Going forward, we will be transitioning our existing SDK to a watch-only SDK (no recording). We will continue supporting the current SDK through August 24th, one month from now. However, this will not include support for new operating systems, game engines, or social media updates. I realize these changes may affect some of your current work or future plans, and I apologize for any inconvenience, but believe there will be many more opportunities to work together very soon!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Best,
Danny

Air Wings / Rankings Freefall
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:11:47 AM »
Well, the end maybe approaching rapidly for Air Wings.  For unknown reasons it has dropped like a rock in the ranking in the last week.  So much so that it has completely fallen off the rankings for iPad, and this is despite be running $700/day in Facebook ads.  The Facebook ads have kept it barely hanging on in the iPhone rankings, but just barely.  We only make back a small fraction of that $700 daily ad expense from the ads themselves, so I'll probably stop running them shortly, and then the game will completely disappear from the rankings.

I suspect that the Flight Games collection that Air Wings had been in for years finally got demoted or removed, so far fewer people are finding it now.  With the number of downloads we're currently getting the game will probably reach its final days fairly soon, as there won't be enough people to auto-match with as current users disappear over time.

It's been a great run for the game tho!  Can't complain about 3 1/2 years of this!

Air Wings / Upgrades revamp
« on: May 08, 2015, 09:41:11 AM »
Air Wings has gotten pretty cluttered over the years with all of the extra upgrade packs, so I'm thinking about simplifying everything by putting the planes and levels into larger bundles.  So, instead of having Level Pack 1, 2,3.. and Plane Pack 1,2,3...  I'd have "Indoor Levels" and "Outdoor Levels", and then "Paper Airplanes", "Toy Airplanes", "Holiday Airplanes".  The Paper Airplanes upgrade, for example, would contain *all* of the planes made of paper.  You get the idea.

This would not affect old purchases which will still continue to work, and you could still restore them just fine, but you wouldn't be able to buy the old ones anymore.  Instead you'd be buying one of these new packs which would probably cost more since there's more in it.

I think this would cleanup the game a little, and make it less intimidating for the users who currently see a gazillion different things to buy.

Thoughts?

Air Wings / Air Wings getting love on App Store
« on: February 20, 2015, 08:58:51 AM »
We're spiking in the rankings thanks to some front-page love from Apple.  They have a new "Incredible Flights" section on the front page of the App Store, so hopefully this will give the game a much needed boost in players.

Air Wings / Latest Air Wings stats
« on: November 24, 2014, 08:29:24 AM »
I thought this might be of interest to everyone:

According to iTunes Connect we've now had 7.27 million downloads of Air Wings.  Most from the USA and Canada of course, but I'm surprised how low Middle East / India are since I see so many people from there online.

Air Wings / 9.0
« on: November 20, 2014, 04:43:42 PM »
So, we're working on 9.0, and I'm contemplating reducing the number of upgrade packs because it's feeling pretty cluttered these days.  What I'm thinking about doing is merging a bunch of the Plane and Level Packs into fewer Packs which contain more stuff.  Anyone who already owns one of the existing packs would simply be upgraded to whatever pack those things end up in.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Good idea?  Bad idea?

Air Wings / Dropoff in players
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:31:20 AM »
Wow, November has not been a good month for Air Wings.  The number of players has taken a serious dive, and I'm not really sure why.  I'm only seeing about half the number of people online that we'd normally see, and our downloads have dropped significantly too.  My best guess is that it is because the "Flight Games" collection on the App Store where many people found out about the game has been moved to a very remote location.  Or, we may not be coming up so high in certain keyword searches anymore.  Hard to say what caused the sudden drop, but it's not just the iOS 8 Game Center issues because those have been going on since September, and this drop has been since around the start of November.

If the player base drops much more it could trigger a cascade effect, and the game will die very quickly like Intergalactic did.  I can't really complain if that happens, however.  I mean Air Wings has had an amazing run for the last 2.5+ years, but still...

Air Wings / 8.1
« on: October 29, 2014, 09:36:16 AM »
I just submitted 8.1 which adds a new feature.  You can now tap the middle of the screen during gameplay to see a rear-view camera mode.  Useful for seeing who's behind you.

This update also fixes a main menu text corruption issue on the new iPads.

Sorry to tease you with so little info, but I promise it'll be worth the wait.
