Air Wings 11.2
« on: May 22, 2017, 01:28:10 PM »
Here's the latest on the next version which I'll submit next week:

• Voice Chat didn't work out.  It's still broken on iOS 10, and my bug report that I filed with Apple last year says "Duplicate" which means another developer reported the same malfunction.  So, it's up to Apple to fix voice chat before we can bring that back.

• I've implemented my own Invite / Rematch system which makes up for some of what Apple did to Game Center in iOS 10.  Now, every time you play a game it remembers who you played and stores it in a list.  When you start a game on the Main Menu you are presented a new screen where the old "2 Player / 4 Player" screen used to be.  Instead you are given the option of Auto-Match or Re-Match.  If you select Re-Match it brings up a dialog showing all the players that you have played.  The list is sorted by most recent.  Here you can select up to 3 players to rematch.  From here it's up to Game Center because it sends the game invitations out to those players via the usual method.  So, now it's much easier to play people again, and they don' have to be in your address book!

Sounds like a step in the right direction!  Hope this all works out.  How many "previous games" will it store?  Too bad you may have to scroll back 50 games to play someone you haven't played in a while. I miss the old "friend" list.  Maybe there will be a way to save someone in a new "friend list" for easy access.  Just brainstorming....
Thanks

I currently have it set to 120,  but that seems like overkill.  Dunno... how many do you think it should remember?

That's five times more people than actually play the game these days!  LOL  :D
Sorry couldn't resist.   I think that's plenty.  You could always tweek it later.

Believe it or not Air Wings still averages about 9,000 unique players per day.  More on week new.

Wow!  Impressive!   Especially after all this time. It really is a unique game.  Too bad it's been a constant battle with Apple.

I just submitted 11.2.1 which fixes a few things and also simplifies the Rematch menu option.

According to our stats about 75% of people playing Air Wings are on 11.2.x which is great!  It may be coincidence, but it sure seems like the connection failure rate is much, much lower now.  I've seen a definite improvement in the connection success rate now that most people are on 11.2.  Is it just me?  I still see some failures - probably because of the people still running the older versions.

I will say the player count seems to be up a bit.  Sometimes I wonder if that thing is accurate.  I can log on the exact same time as someone across the room (running an older version) and I can show 25 online and they will show 8.   Weird.
Anyway, I still have a good bit of trouble getting a match up and because of that I play mostly 1 player.   The more players....the less likely you are to get a complete match up.  As you said...it could be because of all the different versions of AW and Apple's ios running out there.

As of 2 minutes ago the old versions of the game have been cut off.  Multiplayer now only works with 11.2.x so updating is required.

Just submitted 11.2.3 which fixes a bug that should result in significantly better stability.
